Information overload is one of the biggest challenges of the modern knowledge-based economies. We explore how computer science disciplines, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, can alleviate the information overload problem in domains like healthcare and life sciences, or news analytics. The interdisciplinary research areas we focus on include extraction of named entities and relations from unstructured texts, multimodal learning on text, graph and tabular data, healthcare recommender systems, biomedical data integration or applications of Large Language Models in discovery informatics. We also teach courses in areas related to our research, and work on practical applications of our results together with industrial partners (such as Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute or Newsmatics, Inc.).
